Good Morning Calls: Friendship + Safety-net Alert Service
Good Morning Service

Good Morning Service is a multi-award winning charity providing 50,000+ Good Morning® Calls to over 300 older people each year, with additional Good Night Calls over Winter.

Every morning, 365 days a year, we call out to members to check all is well and for a good blether. With Good Morning Calls we take time to build trust and meaningful, long-term relationships. We are a friend on the phone, there to brighten the day, or simply to listen, and provide emotional support in difficult times.

Good Morning Calls are also a safety-net alert service. If someone fails to answer their phone and cannot be located we will alert their emergency contact person or the local Police.

Impact:

1. Connected - older people are, and feel, connected to the Good Morning Community, and in turn their wider community. Local communities are strengthened.

2. Safer - older people are, and feel, safer knowing that potential health problems will be alerted to if they fail to answer their Good Morning Call. Family and friends also get peace of mind.

3.Valued - older people are, and feel, valued because trusting, meaningful, long-term relationships are built and then sustained. Members consider Good Morning Service staff to be their friends some even call us their family;

4. Resilient - mental health is improved / good mental health maintained which has a positive impact on their physical health. Older people are more resilient, better able to deal with Life’s challenges.

We respectfully ask you for a donation towards core and running costs to provide Good Morning Calls to older people in Glasgow and South Ayrshire.

Your support makes a practical, direct impact to our life-saving and life-enhancing service and will be very much appreciated by us, and our members. They say it best in their own words:

At the time I didn’t want to live any more. I felt, if this is Life, I don’t want it, and my GP put me on to Good Morning. Talking has helped me more because medication, you become immune to it and it doesn't do anything for you. I’ve found talking is the best therapy,” Albert, 72

"I can face the day and tasks more readily after my Calls. It reassures me that at difficult times, and in general, I am not alone." Clare, 70

Referring me to this service is the best thing my doctor has ever done for me. I thank her every time I see her” Client, 76 years

After my knee operation I was feeling really low and just done in but they made me realise that I still had lots of life to lead, and they always noticed my progress. It was really good to be reminded of how far I’d come because you don’t see it in yourself. I enjoy our chats and their daily encouragement.” Betty, 82 years

"When I was diagnosed with cancer I felt like crawlin into my bed and not getting out again. Everyone was so patient and every day I could get it off my chest, I was so upset. I was in a dark place and I just cried. I needed to talk and to be understood, thank you for everything." Mary, 73
