About Cadw

We care for 130 historic sites around Wales including castles, abbeys, ironworks, hillforts and burial chambers. Over 100 of our sites are free to visit and are full of dramatic tales of Wales's turbulent past. Cadw works to protect and support in many other ways too: We give legal protection to places of special historic significance, offer guidance about managing change to historic assets. Provide grants for conservation and repair of historic buildings, promote regeneration and development through heritage and review legislation policy and guidance. Cadw employs 250 people working across a range of disciplines. We work with a range of partner organisations and networks, ranging from large national institutions to local community groups.
