Remembering Stephen Cotterell: Hills Road Bursary Extra Fund

If you wish, you can choose to give to the Hills Road Bursary Extra Fund in memory of Stephen Cotterell.

Stephen (Steve) was a Geography teacher at Hills Road Sixth Form College from 1974 until he retired, as Head of Careers, and education was of huge importance to him.

The Bursary Extra Fund will offer support to students from a disadvantaged background to take part in trips and visits that are not deemed compulsory and therefore do not qualify for government funding. This includes overseas trips for language students, as well as theatre trips and music activities.

Whilst these trips are not a compulsory part of the curriculum, they nevertheless offer a valuable learning experience and an opportunity for personal development.

A former student described her experience of the kind of trip that could be funded through the Bursary Extra Fund in future: “I took part in a work experience exchange in Hamburg. It was an amazing opportunity where I was able to work in a primary school, live with a German family and explore the city with my exchange partner. This experience helped develop both my language skills and independence and I learnt so much from it." Charlotte, 18
