OUTSTANDING NEW GYMASTICS FACILITY AT LEATHERHEAD
Planning Permission has now been granted by Mole Valley District Council to Leatherhead & Dorking Gymnastics Club for its new extended gymnastics facility. The new building will extend the present training centre which is a designated British Gymnastics High Performance Centre and a Centre of Excellence with up to 1800 young gymnasts training each week.
The new (extended) facility designed by FORM Architects has an emphasis on provision for the disabled . Apart from the main training area a sensory room will provide the quality environment need for these children with special needs.
The club has already developed a special programme for the disabled with schools and classes already providing a dedicated programme. The quality of the design responds to the sensitivity of its setting.
Funding for the new facility has been sourced from a number of areas . In particular a significant grant award has been made by The Peter Harrison Foundation whose name will be associated with the building.
Work is scheduled to commence in the autumn with the new gymnasium expected to be complete in the spring of 2020.
Paul Garber the Club Chairman and former President of British Gymnastics said that this new “World Class Facility” will achieve a wide ranging benefit for the community facilitating not only the club’s disability programme but its international standard Team Gym Gymnasts, its artistic elite programme ,general and pre school gymnastics”.
