North Street International Day

How does the campaign work?

International Day works by bringing our diverse learners together to design, create, and lead a celebration of culture during Refugee Week. Students at North Street who are learning English as a Second Language collaborate to create stalls that showcase their culture, including food, traditional objects, clothing, artworks, and stories, which they then present to attendees on the day.

The event also features musical performances, including an original song written by our Music Club, as well as artistic displays such as murals, poetry, henna painting, temporary tattoos, and other creative expressions. Each year’s programme evolves based on student ideas, ensuring the event is planned with the students, for the students, and reflects the communities represented on our campus.

Overall, the campaign creates a warm, inclusive atmosphere of celebration and togetherness. International Day is a much-loved annual event for both students and staff, fostering pride, connection, and cross-cultural understanding.

Where does your money go?

All funding goes directly toward delivering an inclusive, student-led International Day. Money is used to purchase materials for cultural stalls, arts activities, and performances; provide food and refreshments so all students can participate; and cover practical event costs such as equipment and signage.

We prioritise sustainability, investing in reusable decorations and resources that can be used year after year, reducing waste and supporting a long-term, cost-effective celebration.

* Fundraising, payments and donations will be processed and administered by the National Funding Scheme (Charity No: 1149800), operating as DONATE. Texts will be charged at your standard network rate. For Terms & Conditions, see www.easydonate.org

Why does this matter?

International Day is more than a celebration; it is a powerful act of belonging.

For many of our students learning English as a Second Language, arriving in a new country can feel overwhelming. New systems. New language. New expectations. International

Day gently shifts that experience.

It Builds Belonging

It Develops Lifelong Skills

It Strengthens Community

International Day shows our young people that diversity is not something to tolerate; it is something to celebrate.

Don’t just take our word for it, watch their video and hear their stories.
