New Mills Art Theatre
New Mills Art Theatre seats 455 and serves as a creative hub for New Mills and beyond, supporting community arts and events
The Art Theatre in New Mills, Derbyshire, is a volunteer-run venue supporting theatre and arts in the community. Opened in 1911 and redesigned in 1921 by architect Albert Winstanley, it remains a vital cultural hub. The theatre retains many original features, including a rare revolving stage and a barrel-vaulted tin ceiling painted by Clare Ferriby, who also decorated Manchester’s Palace Theatre. In 2019, it added gold seats from Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Theatre Royal, Drury Lane—bringing a touch of the West End to the High Peak. Entirely self-funded, the Art Theatre offers public benefit at no cost to the taxpayer.
