Surgical Robot Appeal

The Robotic Surgery team has grown significantly in scope and capacity over the last few years with the support of the Charity. They are a pioneering force in the development of robotic-assisted surgery on an international scale, which means we’re ideally positioned to lead future developments in this innovative surgical field.

Robotic-assisted surgery has benefits for patients over open surgery, including reduced pain and blood loss, shorter hospital stays and quicker recovery times, as well as a reduced risk of readmission post-surgery. The surgery requires only very small incisions, possible thanks to laparoscopic cameras and instruments controlled remotely by a surgeon via the robotic system’s console. This allows greater visibility and precision than would be available in conventional open surgery, making procedures easier for surgeons and safer for patients.

Julie Cooper, Head of Charity at the N&N Hospitals Charity, said: “The two robots currently in use have already demonstrated clear benefits to patients and staff and the additional robots would build upon these benefits, extending the advantages of robotic-assisted surgery to more areas of the hospital. More patients will undergo safer, less invasive procedures with better surgical outcomes, shorter hospital stays and a reduced need for additional support post-surgery.

“This will mean hospital and clinical resources will be more accessible, with shorter waiting times for many patients within our community.”
